Seller's Introduction
duPont REGISTRY Live is proud to present this 1953 Studebaker Hawk Custom, a radically reimagined and professionally built restomod completed around 2020 following over 3,000 reported hours of craftsmanship and more than $250,000 invested. This one-of-one build blends vintage Studebaker styling with extensive modern engineering, resulting in a highly distinctive custom with both show-quality presence and serious performance capability.
Overview
At its core is a fully built 304ci Studebaker V8, engineered to support a Paxton supercharger and upgraded with hydraulic roller lifters, roller rocker arms, hypereutectic pistons, and a FiTech port fuel injection system. Power is delivered through a 5-speed manual transmission to a narrowed C4 Corvette rear end, paired with a C4 Corvette front suspension. The chassis is further enhanced with coilovers at all four corners, 4-wheel disc brakes, and power rack-and-pinion steering, creating a significantly more capable and responsive driving experience. A dual exhaust system with long-tube headers and Flowmaster mufflers completes the performance package. The odometer and speedometer are inoperable, true mileage is unknown.
Inside, the cabin has been fully customized with orange leather bucket seats and matching door panels, complemented by a repurposed Edsel dashboard that reinforces the car’s unique, cross-era design approach. Additional features include power windows and a modern custom sound system, blending classic styling cues with contemporary functionality. The interior reflects the same level of detail and craftsmanship seen throughout the build.
The exterior showcases extensive metalwork and fabrication, including a shortened 10-inch wheelbase, reshaped quarter panels, and a rear hatch sourced from a Nissan 350Z. The roof has been adapted from a 2017 Chevrolet Camaro and reworked to accommodate a more aggressive, laid-back windshield profile. Additional custom elements include dropped front fenders, a fabricated grille with integrated LED lighting, a modified front spoiler, frenched headlamps, and 1955 Studebaker taillights. The car rides on 15-inch 5-spoke Radir wheels, completing its aggressive stance and unmistakable presence.
This 1953 Studebaker Hawk Restomod, built by Varacalli Auto Body in East McKeesport, PA, represents a no-expense-spared build that merges classic American design with modern performance components and extensive hand-fabrication. With its highly distinctive specification, this Hawk offers a rare opportunity to acquire a truly one-of-one custom build.
