Seller's Introduction
duPont REGISTRY Live is proud to present this 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback GT500 Tribute, a well-executed GT500-style restomod finished in Acapulco Blue with white side stripes. Powered by a 428 cubic-inch FE V8 paired with a Ford Toploader 4-speed manual transmission, this example combines the visual presence of the Shelby GT500 with traditional big-block Mustang performance. The car presents in excellent overall condition, reflecting a comprehensive and carefully finished build.
Overview
At the center of the car is a 428 CID (7.0L) Ford FE big-block V8 showing a casting date of 8C25 (March 25, 1968) and is equipped with a Ford “1U” 428 crankshaft. Power is delivered through the highly regarded Ford Toploader 4-speed manual transmission, known for its durability and use in many factory performance Mustangs of the era. The drivetrain is complemented by a Ford 9-inch rear end fitted with 3.90 gearing and a Positraction differential, providing strong acceleration and dependable power delivery. Braking is handled by power front disc and rear drum brakes, while power steering improves drivability.
Inside, the cabin maintains the classic Mustang fastback layout with GT500-inspired details. The interior is finished in black upholstery with black leather bucket seats and folding rear seats, preserving the period-correct muscle car aesthetic. A wood-rimmed GT500-style steering wheel sits ahead of the driver, stock instrument gauges are accompanied by Stewart Warner auxiliary gauges that monitor engine vitals. A floor-mounted shifter controls the four-speed transmission, while an interior roll bar reinforces the performance-oriented theme. For modern convenience, a RetroSound AM/FM stereo with auxiliary input has been installed while maintaining a vintage appearance. The interior remains clean and well-preserved, consistent with the overall presentation of the vehicle.
The exterior is finished in Acapulco Blue, a classic Mustang-era color that highlights the fastback’s muscular body lines. The car has been fitted with complete GT500-style bodywork and badging, including a fiberglass GT500 hood with hood pins, side scoops and louvers, and grille-mounted inboard fog lights reminiscent of Shelby styling cues. Polished American Racing Shelby-style wheels complete the stance, while a stainless steel dual exhaust with chrome tips exits at the rear. Beneath the car, the undercarriage has been finished in red oxide primer, highlighting the quality and attention to detail of this restoration.
Accompanying the sale are three keys and build receipts documenting parts installed during restoration. With its 428 FE big-block engine, 4-speed manual transmission, 3.90 Ford 9-inch rear end, and GT500-inspired styling, this 1967 Mustang Fastback GT500 Tribute offers the visual character and mechanical presence associated with Shelby-era Mustangs in a thoughtfully built and well-presented restomod package.
