Seller's Introduction
duPont REGISTRY Live presents this 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Sport Coupe, a ground-up pro-touring build commissioned in 2017 and completed by Classic Car Studio in St. Louis, Missouri. Powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 crate V8 paired with a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission, this example sits on a fully fabricated chassis by Moore Race Chassis. Following completion, the car enjoyed some screen time as it featured on the Discovery Channel’s reality series “Speed is the New Black” and was displayed at the 2018 SEMA Show in the Billet Specialties booth. Combining modern supercharged performance with a fully re-engineered platform, this Chevelle represents a comprehensive reinterpretation of Chevy's early 1970s muscle car era. Notably, this Chevelle is offered on consignment from social media personality Supercar Ron.
Overview
The Chevrolet Chevelle defined an era where displacement and simplicity ruled. This build takes that formula and replaces every limitation with modern engineering, resulting in a car that delivers performance far beyond anything envisioned in the 1970s.
At its core is a supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 crate V8, producing over 600 horsepower in factory configuration. Known for its durability and forced-induction efficiency, the LS9 transforms the Chevelle into a high-output street and track machine. Power is delivered through a Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission and McLeod clutch, feeding a fabricated Ford 9-inch rear end, a drivetrain built for both durability and engagement.
The original chassis has been replaced entirely with a fabricated unit from Moore Race Chassis, constructed with mandrel-bent rails and designed for modern performance. Independent front and rear suspension systems, tubular control arms, and adjustable Viking coilovers provide a level of handling precision that fundamentally alters how this muscle car drives. Rack-and-pinion steering sharpens response, while Wilwood disc brakes with six-piston front and four-piston rear calipers deliver serious stopping power.
The body has been extensively refined while retaining its classic proportions. Finished in black with gray SS stripes, it features shaved side markers, flush-mounted door handles, and smoothed, tucked bumpers. A cowl hood and blacked-out trim enhance its aggressive stance, while multiple layers of clear coat, followed by wet sanding and polishing, give the finish exceptional depth.
Inside, the cabin reflects the same attention to detail. Tan Relicate leather covers Recaro bucket seats and a custom rear bench, complemented by a fabricated center console and carbon-fiber trim elements. Dakota Digital HDX gauges replace the original instrumentation, while a Kenwood touchscreen system and Vintage Air climate control add modern usability. Subtle details such as custom lighting and a complete American Autowire harness reinforce the quality of the build.
Showing just over 1,700 miles since completion, this Chevelle has been carefully executed and represents a fully realized pro-touring build that combines modern supercharged LS9 power, a manual gearbox, and a race-bred chassis in one cohesive package.
