Seller's Introduction

duPont REGISTRY Live presents this 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT, an original U.S.-market example with a documented history extending back to its original delivery and an extensive recent engine and transmission rebuild. Sold new through official Ferrari importer Chinetti Garthwaite Imports in Paoli, Pennsylvania, the Dino was delivered in 1972 to its first owner, a doctor in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania, who retained the car until 1985. A Marcel Massini report included with the sale documents the ownership history from new and confirms that the rebuilt engine and gearbox remain the car's original, numbers-matching units.

Overview

This Dino later crossed the Atlantic, exported to Germany in 1992, where it underwent a complete exterior and interior color change from its original Brown over Tan configuration to the current Yellow over Black presentation. It remained in Germany through two subsequent owners before being acquired and imported back to the U.S. by the previous owner. The Massini report, along with extensive supporting documentation, provides an unusually detailed record of the car's history and provenance.

Between 2024 and 2025, the Dino received extensive mechanical work at Smith Motorworks Inc. in Panama City Beach, Florida, followed by additional tuning and dialing-in at Tim Stanford Foreign Cars in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Receipts document a comprehensive engine reseal incorporating a new timing chain, guides, and bearings, along with substantial additional mechanical work. An upgraded air-conditioning compressor was also installed, while the original compressor is included with the car. Total receipts from the past two years exceed $60,000, providing substantial documentation of the recent mechanical investment.

The exterior presents the classic Pininfarina-designed Dino silhouette in Yellow, with its distinctive wrap-around rear glass, chrome bumpers, door-mounted mirrors, and 14-inch Cromodora wheels. Inside, the cabin has been freshly reupholstered in Black leather, including new door panels, while low-back bucket seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, Veglia Borletti instrumentation, and the iconic open-gate shifter retain the character of Ferrari's mid-engine V6 sports car.

Power comes from the rebuilt 2.4-liter Tipo 135CS V6, fed by three two-barrel Weber carburetors and paired with a rebuilt 5-speed manual transmission. A limited-slip differential, rear-wheel drive, and four-wheel ventilated disc brakes complete the mechanical package. The combination of its lightweight chassis, mid-engine layout, and high-revving V6 remains central to the appeal of the Dino 246 GT.

With ownership documented back to new, a Marcel Massini report, numbers-matching engine and gearbox, and more than $60,000 in documented mechanical work over the last two years, this 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT offers an unusually well-documented example of one of Ferrari's most celebrated mid-engine road cars. The sale includes one set of keys and extensive replacement-parts and service receipts.

Inspectors Notes: What a car! The Dino embodies so much Ferrari spirit and gets to wear the name of Enzo Ferrari's first son. This Dino is presented here as a fantastic "get in and go" example. No stone left unturned making this one a real turn key car. A complete engine rebuild from the bearings to the carb tuning. They even rebuilt the differential twice to make sure the driving experience is as it should be. This car sings down the road and plays a great exhaust note while doing it. Don't miss the Massini report that details the history back to new!
