duPont REGISTRY Live is proud to present this 1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1, a factory-correct example of Ford’s early-’70s performance coupe, finished in its original paint color and backed by long-term 17-year ownership. This is a true “63R” code Mach 1 (SportsRoof), originally sold new at James Ford in Gardena, California, and retains its documented history with an Elite Marti Report and reproduction window sticker.

Power comes from the H-code 351 Cleveland V8, originally equipped with a 2-barrel carburetor and intake, now upgraded to a Holley 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold for improved performance. The transmission has been upgraded from its factory FMX automatic to a Tremec T5 5-speed manual, offering a more engaging driving experience. Additional mechanical upgrades include 4-wheel power disc brakes (converted from factory rear drums), a Ford 9-inch rear end with 3.73 gearing, true dual exhaust, and Flowmaster mufflers, along with power steering.

The exterior is finished in Bright Red, maintaining its factory-correct presentation and protected by a ceramic coating. Classic Mach 1 styling cues include SportsRoof fastback bodywork, Mach 1 stripes, rear window louvers, and hood pins. The car rides on 15-inch Magnum 500 wheels, completing the period-correct appearance. The engine bay features period and factory-correct details like reproduction hang tags on the washer fluid bottle and battery, factory markings on the fire wall and a vintage-look Auto Lite battery cover. 

Inside, the cabin is trimmed in Vermillion Sebring Knit/Corinthian vinyl upholstery and retains a cohesive, largely original look. Features include a wood-rim steering wheel, Hurst shifter, Custom Auto Sound radio, center console with cup holders, and folding rear seats, along with matching Mustang floor mats. The floor pans and trunk pan have been replaced, addressing common wear areas and supporting the overall condition.

This Mach 1 is offered with one set of keys, an Elite Marti Report, and a reproduction window sticker. With its documented provenance, factory-correct specification, and well-considered upgrades, this 1972 Ford Mustang Mach 1 represents a solid example of a true SportsRoof performance model.
