Seller's Introduction
duPont REGISTRY Live presents this beautifully restored 1973 BMW 3.0 CSi, a European-market example originally delivered new to Verona, Italy and distinguished by its numbers-matching M30 3.0-liter inline-six, four-speed manual transmission, and classic Silver Polaris exterior. Following a restoration by Oldenzaal Classics in the Netherlands, the coupe pairs its timeless BMW design with red leather upholstery, wood interior trim, and 16-inch Alpina wheels. Power steering, power brakes, and fuel injection add to the car’s appeal, while accompanying historical documentation helps trace its European origins and subsequent journey to the United States.
Overview
The BMW 3.0 CSi was part of the E9 coupe family, a line of grand touring cars celebrated for its elegant proportions, driver-focused character, and motorsport heritage. The CSi designation identified the fuel-injected version of BMW’s 3.0-liter six-cylinder coupe, combining smooth power delivery with the engagement of a manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. Today, these E9 models remain highly regarded for their distinctive styling, long-hood proportions, and role in establishing the foundation for BMW’s subsequent high-performance coupes.
The exterior is finished in Polaris Silver Metallic, the original factory-optioned color on this E9 which highlights the it’s sweeping roofline and sculpted bodywork. Chrome bumpers and bright trim preserve the classic appearance, while 16-inch Alpina wheels add a sporting touch. Driver and passenger-side mirrors, front fender vents, and 3.0 CSi badging complete the exterior details, maintaining the coupe’s understated yet recognizable presence.
Inside, the cabin features red leather upholstery complemented by wood trim across the dashboard and door panels. A Nardi wood-rim steering wheel adds a distinctive period-inspired detail, while chrome door sill plates provide a polished finishing touch. Power windows, air conditioning, and an AM/FM radio offer convenient amenities without detracting from the cabin’s classic character. The combination of red leather, warm wood accents, and the traditional BMW driving position creates an inviting environment suited to the car’s grand touring roots.
Power comes from the numbers-matching, fuel-injected 3.0-liter inline-six, paired with a four-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. Four-wheel disc brakes provide stopping power, while power steering and power-assisted braking contribute to a more comfortable driving experience. The naturally aspirated six-cylinder engine and manual gearbox preserve the mechanical character that makes the E9 such an engaging classic BMW.
This 1973 BMW 3.0 CSi combines an extensive restoration by Oldenzaal Classics with desirable European-market provenance and its numbers-matching engine. Originally delivered to Italy, the car is accompanied by Italian registration documentation extending through 2003, as well as an inspection invoice from the Netherlands dated 2020. Following its importation to the United States, it was registered in Montana and now carries a clean Florida title. With its Polaris Silver finish, red leather interior, Alpina wheels, and four-speed manual transmission, this E9 presents an appealing opportunity to acquire a distinctive example of BMW’s classic grand touring coupe. The sale includes two sets of keys and a BMW Classic Certificate.
Inspectors Notes: This is a truly beautiful E9! Nearly as clean underneath as it is on top. The original engine is tuned properly and shifts through the gears in excellent grand touring style. The U.S. never got the fuel injected "CSi" model , therefore these Euro examples command a premium stateside. The original color, Polaris Silver, pops under any kind of light and has tons of metallic flake. The paint pairs very nicely with the plush red leather upholstery. This car is very well put together and will make for an excellent show car or driver.
