Seller's Introduction
duPont REGISTRY Live presents this exceptionally well-preserved 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL, finished in its original Signal Red over an original Palomino leather interior and showing just 16,800 miles. Representing the final years of the classic R107 SL generation, this example retains its original paint and interior and is powered by Mercedes-Benz's 3.8-liter V8 paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission. With a clean CARFAX and supporting service records, it offers an especially appealing combination of low mileage, originality, and timeless Mercedes-Benz styling.
Overview
The R107 SL was produced for nearly two decades and became one of Mercedes-Benz's most recognizable grand touring roadsters. Known for its durable engineering, understated styling, and exceptional build quality, the SL combined open-air motoring with the comfort and sophistication expected from Mercedes-Benz. The 380SL represented the model's V8-powered grand touring formula, offering a refined driving experience with the added practicality of a removable hard top and folding soft top.
The exterior remains finished in its original Signal Red paint, complemented by chrome bumpers and trim, fog lights, and classic 14-inch Bundt alloy wheels. Both tops are included, with a Signal Red removable hard top and black folding soft top allowing the car to be enjoyed in a variety of configurations. The preserved exterior presents the unmistakable proportions and details that define the R107.
Inside, the original Palomino leather upholstery gives the cabin a classic period-correct appearance. Bucket seats, automatic climate control, a Becker cassette radio, cruise control, and a four-spoke steering wheel provide the expected combination of comfort and usability. The untouched interior further reinforces the car's low-mileage and original condition.
Power comes from Mercedes-Benz's 3.8-liter V8, paired with a 4-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive. Four-wheel disc brakes and anti-lock braking provide additional confidence, while the SL's long-distance-oriented chassis makes it equally suited to relaxed cruising or top-down weekend driving.
Showing just 16,800 miles, retaining its original Signal Red paint and original interior, and accompanied by service records, this 1985 Mercedes-Benz 380SL represents a particularly well-preserved example of the R107 generation. Its low mileage, desirable color combination, dual-top configuration, and clean CARFAX make it an appealing choice for both the Mercedes-Benz enthusiast and collector. The sale includes one key and service records.
Inspectors Notes: Wow! R107s are hard to come by with this kind of mileage. The 80s Mercedes SL offers a great classic experience with surprising reliability, so a lot of them were thoroughly enjoyed and commonly have 100k+ miles. This is one of the lowest mile SLs for sale currently, and it's now available only for a short time at no reserve.
