Seller's Introduction

duPont REGISTRY Live presents this 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe, a comprehensively reengineered example that pairs its original low-mileage body with modern GM performance. Underpinned by a Roadster Shop chassis, this is a highly original example that began life as a sub-2000-mile survivor, which is now powered by a supercharged 6.2-liter LT5 V8 with ~800 reported horsepower on tap. This build represents a significant evolution of Chevrolet’s G-body platform. Built by C&S Performance in Louisiana and showing just over 1,000 miles since completion, this example retains much of its original exterior and interior character while integrating contemporary drivetrain, suspension, and braking systems. With over $200,000 invested in this build, it offers a compelling blend of period-correct styling and modern performance.

Overview

The Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe occupies a unique place in GM’s performance history, developed during the height of NASCAR influence in the 1980s. Its defining feature, the sloped rear “Aero” glass, was introduced to improve high-speed aerodynamics, resulting in one of the most recognizable and limited G-body variants produced.

This example takes that already distinctive platform and transforms it into something far more capable. Originally powered by a 305 ci V8 that put out 180 horsepower, this example now packs a supercharged 6.2-liter LT5 V8 crate motor that puts out somewhere in the region of 800 horsepower. The LT5 is a modern interpretation of GM’s high-performance architecture, delivering substantial gains in both power and responsiveness, now packaged in a car that weighs ~3,500 pounds. Engine management is handled through a Speartech control system, ensuring precise calibration and drivability, while supporting components such as Spal brushless fans contribute to thermal efficiency and reliability.

Power is routed through an 8L90E 8-speed automatic transmission, offering rapid, closely spaced gear changes that significantly enhance both acceleration and highway usability. At the rear, a Strange Engineering differential with 3.00 gearing provides a balanced setup for both performance and cruising.

The chassis has been completely reworked using a Roadster Shop platform, dramatically improving rigidity, suspension geometry, and overall driving dynamics. BAER four-wheel disc brakes provide modern stopping capability, while the lowered stance and Forgeline five-spoke wheels give the car a purposeful, planted appearance.

Visually, the car retains much of its original identity, with an edgy form reminiscent of the 1980s muscle car era, and the body and interior starting out as a sub-2000-mile survivor. The mostly original white paint, combined with factory-style graphics, T-top configuration, and the signature Aero Coupe rear window, preserves the car’s period-correct presence while subtly hinting at the performance beneath.

Inside, the cabin continues this balance. Original maroon cloth upholstery and factory elements remain intact, complemented by the original steering wheel, Dakota Digital gauges, modern climate control components, and additional Dynamat sound insulation in both the cabin and trunk, for improved refinement.

With just 1,010 miles since completion and supported by detailed build receipts, this example combines NASCAR-era heritage with supercharged LT power and a fully modern chassis. Chevy only made 6,052 Monte Carlo Aero Coupe SS, and this one stands out further as a discreet yet highly capable reinterpretation of one of GM’s most distinctive performance platforms.
