Seller's Introduction

The duPont REGISTRY Live team is truly ecstatic to present an iconic flat-twelve Ferrari from the height of Maranello’s analog supercar era, a 1989 Ferrari Testarossa finished in Rosso Corsa over a tan Connolly leather interior. Showing just 24,847 miles at the time of documentation, this example represents one of the most recognizable and culturally significant Ferraris ever produced. Retaining its gated manual transmission and unmistakable side-strake silhouette, the Testarossa remains a reference point for Ferrari’s late-1980s flagship philosophy.

Overview

Introduced in 1984 as the successor to the Berlinetta Boxer, the Ferrari Testarossa redefined what a flagship Ferrari could be, both visually and mechanically. By the 1989 model year, the Testarossa had matured into a thoroughly developed grand touring supercar, retaining its dramatic Pininfarina styling while benefiting from incremental refinements in build quality and drivability. Its wide stance, flying-buttress rear haunches, and signature side strakes were not mere styling theatrics but functional solutions for cooling the massive flat-twelve engine mounted low and wide behind the cockpit. Few cars of the era became instant cultural symbols, and the Testarossa’s starring role in Miami Vice cemented its status as the definitive automotive icon of 1980s excess.

Power comes from Ferrari’s Tipo F113 4.9-liter naturally aspirated flat-twelve engine, which puts out 390 horsepower, 361 pound-feet of torque, and pairs a 5-speed gated manual transaxle driving the rear wheels. This configuration is known to deliver a uniquely smooth yet forceful powerband, accompanied by one of the most evocative engine notes of the era. Tipping the scales at just over 3,300 pounds, performance figures were formidable for the time, with 0 to 60 mph in the low five-second range and a top speed approaching 180 mph, positioning the Testarossa squarely among the world’s elite supercars of the late 1980s.

This particular example is finished in classic Rosso Corsa and a tan Connolly leatherinterior, a timeless specification that resonates with Ferrari heritage, with the silver 16-inch five-spoke alloy wheels further reinforcing that detail. Highlights in the cabin include the iconic open-gate shifter, Alpine Cassette radio, power windows, and power seatbelts, delivering an unapologetically analog driving experience defined by mechanical feedback and occasion.

With 24,847 original miles on the odometer at the time of documentation, it reflects mileage consistent with careful, enthusiast ownership. As expected for a car of this age, there is some visible wear, including minor damage on the front bumper at the front left corner and wear on the driver’s seat bolster. These details further reinforce the car’s originality. Autocheck records indicate registration history spanning New Jersey and New York, with no accidents reported. In November 2021, the car received significant mechanical attention at Automotive Ingenuity in Pine Island, New York, including a full clutch system replacement, flywheel machining, slave cylinder rebuild, ignition tune-up, belt service, and oil service. These items address some of the most critical maintenance considerations for flat-twelve Ferraris and materially enhance long-term usability and confidence.

As values continue to firm for landmark 1980s supercars, the Testarossa has emerged from a long period of underappreciation into a position of renewed collector interest. Of the roughly 7,000 Testarossas produced worldwide, an estimated 2,200 to 2,300 examples were delivered to the United States, making well-preserved, low-mileage cars increasingly difficult to find today. With its flat-twelve engine, gated manual transmission, and deep cultural significance, this 1989 Ferrari Testarossa represents a cornerstone acquisition for collectors seeking an authentic, usable, and historically significant Ferrari from one of the Italian marque's most influential decades.
