The Porsche 964 generation occupies a unique place in the history of the 911. Introduced for the 1989 model year, it represented a significant evolution of the classic air-cooled platform while maintaining the unmistakable design language that had defined the 911 for decades. Today, the 964 has become a favored foundation for high-end restomod builds, offering the perfect balance between classic mechanical purity and modern performance potential.

 

This 1990 Porsche 911 Restomod exemplifies that philosophy through an extensive mechanical and cosmetic transformation. The car has undergone a bare-metal respray in the iconic Porsche color Rubystone Red (paint code 82N), a bold and highly recognizable shade from Porsche’s historic color palette. Complementing the vibrant finish are 964 Turbo exterior upgrades, including metal Turbo front fenders, widened rear quarter panels, and Turbo-spec front and rear bumpers, a speed-activated deployable decklid spoiler, and a rear wiper for added practicality. The stance is completed by Speedline Cup wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires and slotted 964 Turbo Brakes, refurbished Porsche struts on lowered Eibach springs delivering a period-correct motorsport aesthetic.

 

At the heart of the build is a freshly built 3.8-liter air-cooled flat-six featuring a Mahle cylinder set that outputs 330 horsepower, with a custom carbon fiber intake visible in the engine bay, highlighting the build’s performance-focused upgrades. The engine also incorporates DBilas dynamic camshafts and electronic fuel injection, paired with KMS individual throttle bodies and a 997 GT3 intake manifold. A programmable ECU manages the upgraded fuel system, while dual oil coolers and a Dansk Motorsport Ultra Sport exhaust system support performance and durability. Power goes to the rear wheels through Porsche’s robust G50 5-speed manual transmission, maintaining the analog driving experience that defines classic 911s.

 

Inside, the cabin combines factory Porsche components with purposeful motorsport-inspired touches. Black leather upholstery surrounds original 964 Turbo seats, while a 964 RS steering wheel sits at the very heart of the driving experience. A custom roll cage finished in matching Rubystone Red adds structural rigidity and visual drama, complemented by new carpets, fresh seatbelts, rebuilt air conditioning, and a modern Continental Bluetooth audio system.

Restoration work was performed at Sportscars Holland which began with a rust free 1990 911 Carrera donor car. The odometer was reset during the restoration and now shows just over 600 miles traveled since the build was completed. The car now carries a clean Montana title.
