Seller's Introduction

Our team presents an exceptionally rare and historically significant air-cooled Porsche, a 1992 Porsche 911 Turbo S2, one of just 20 Andial-built homologation cars produced for North America. Of those, only 18 were U.S.-market examples. Showing 36,243 miles, finished in Grand Prix White over Cashmere leather, and retaining original paint and panels, this example represents the ultimate evolution of the 964 Turbo platform.

This particular car carries additional historical significance as a special-order example commissioned by Tim Vargo, a former AutoZone executive and Porsche professional driver. It was delivered new through Champion Porsche of Pompano Beach, Florida, one of only ten U.S. Turbo S2 cars retailed by the dealership and one of 10 cars badged “S2” from new.

Notably, it is the only Grand Prix White example among Champion Porsche deliveries, and it carried the highest original MSRP of all Champion-delivered Turbo S2 cars at $115,539, reflecting its unusually extensive factory specification. With documented Andial Turbo S2 specification, extensive recent servicing, rare Porsche Exclusive Sonderwunsch options, and full-body paint protection film, this car represents a reference-grade collector example of one of Porsche’s most elusive forced-induction 911s.

Overview

The 964-generation Turbo S2 occupies a unique and highly revered position within Porsche history. It was built in extremely limited numbers and developed in collaboration with Andial, the California-based Porsche race engine specialist whose work underpinned Porsche’s IMSA, Le Mans, and factory Motorsport programs of the era. Porsche homologated just 20 Turbo S2 cars for North America, with two delivered new to Canada and 18 allocated to the U.S. market, making surviving U.S.-spec examples among the rarest air-cooled Turbos ever produced.

The Turbo S2 was conceived as a homologation-focused evolution of the 964 Turbo, prioritizing mechanical purity, reduced weight, and enhanced performance over comfort. These cars were shipped to North America in near-standard form, where all upgrades were performed at selling Porsche franchises using OEM Porsche part numbers, with components sourced from the European 3.3-liter Turbo S Lightweight models that the U.S. never received due to federal emissions regulations. This allowed Porsche to preserve race-derived mechanical intent while remaining compliant with EPA and DOT requirements.

At the heart of the Turbo S2 was a heavily reworked 3.3-liter turbocharged flat-six (engine code M30/69). While officially rated at 322 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, period testing and insider accounts consistently place real-world output closer to 380 to 400 horsepower. Andial’s upgrades included a larger K27 turbocharger, uprated intercooler, ported and polished cylinder heads, more aggressive camshafts, revised engine management, and supporting hardware. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a 5-speed manual transaxle paired with a limited-slip differential, resulting in a brutally fast, analog turbocharged 911 with direct lineage to Porsche’s IMSA race cars. An attached Car and Driver comparison test from the early 1990s, where the Turbo S2 was evaluated against contemporaries such as the Honda NSX, Dodge Viper, and Ferrari 348TB, illustrates just how dominant this 964 truly was in period.

Visually, the car is distinguished by its factory Turbo “whale tail” rear wing, 959-style cast alloy wheels, and unmodified Grand Prix White paintwork, all of which remain original to this example. Beyond the S2 package itself, this car was ordered with an unusually high level of Porsche Exclusive Sonderwunsch equipment, including the rare light rootwood shift lever knob, extended center console, extended leather trim, leather-covered seats, kneebar, and center console. Among the 18 U.S.-market Turbo S2 cars, this example stands out as the highest-spec’d by original MSRP, and one of only two Grand Prix White cars delivered new, with this example uniquely retaining a clean Carfax history, verified through VIN research across the entire U.S. allocation.

Recent cosmetic and mechanical investments further elevate its condition and usability. In late 2023, the car underwent a comprehensive multi-stage paint correction, received full-body paint protection film, ceramic coating, and wheel refinishing. Extensive mechanical servicing was completed by Protosport Inc., addressing known 964 wear points. Performance-focused yet reversible upgrades include Bilstein PSS10 coilovers, Big Red brake kit, Billy Boat exhaust, air-fuel controller, upgraded steel braided oil lines, and a black leather-wrapped stitched roll bar, while the OEM exhaust and factory struts are included. A full chassis dry ice cleaning performed in 2025 further highlights the level of care and preservation.

As one of just 20 Andial Turbo S2 cars built, and 1-of-18 U.S.-market examples, this 911 represents the absolute pinnacle of air-cooled Turbo variants. With documented Andial provenance, exceptional factory specification, unique delivery history, and extensive recent investment, this Turbo S2 stands as a cornerstone acquisition for collectors seeking one of the most exclusive, authentic, and historically important 964-based performance models ever produced.
