Seller's Introduction
We are proud to present one of the rarest production air-cooled 911s ever offered to the public: a 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S Flachbau, finished in a stunning Guards Red over Tan leather, showing 17,343 miles. One of just 39 examples worldwide built under Porsche Exclusive X85 specification, this factory flat-nose Turbo S represents the final and most extreme evolution of the 964 Turbo program, combining motorsport-derived performance and exclusivity. With documented ownership history and original paint, this example is a reference-grade collectible from a glorious chapter in Porsche’s analog turbo era.
Overview
The 964 Turbo S X85 Flachbau (Flatnose) sits at the absolute summit of Porsche’s early 1990s road car hierarchy. Developed through Porsche Exclusive and heavily influenced by motorsport programs refined in collaboration with Andial, the Turbo S was never intended to be a volume model. Instead, it was a statement car, combining the most powerful iteration of the 964 Turbo’s 3.6-liter single-turbo flat-six with dramatic coachwork inspired by the legendary 935 racers of the 1980s.
Power comes from the 3.6L turbocharged flat-six (M64/50S), rated at 385 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque, sent exclusively to the rear wheels through a (G50) 5-speed manual transmission. This drivetrain placed the Turbo S firmly above the standard 964 Turbo, delivering sharper throttle response, higher top-end performance, and a far more visceral driving experience. In period, it was one of the fastest road-going Porsches money could buy.
What truly defines this car is the X85 Flachbau package on this particular example, which saw the standard 964 front end swapped out for a hand-built 968-style slant-nose design featuring pop-up headlights, massive front cooling intakes, Turbo S-specific side vents, and the signature rear “whale tail” spoiler. The result is one of the most visually arresting factory 911s ever produced.
This car, seen here, is especially notable for its specification. Factory options include Porsche Exclusive interior appointments, carbon fiber dash trim, power-adjustable bucket seats, a factory center console with car phone, and deviating stitching under the Exclusive program. The car remains visually and mechanically accurate, with original Guards Red paint preserved by front-end paint protection film and no known body or paintwork reported. CARFAX reports ownership history shows three long-term custodians across Connecticut, Texas, and Florida, reinforcing its collector-grade provenance.
With production limited to just 39 U.S.-only X85 Flat-Nose Turbo S coupes out of the 76 total Flachbau models (X83, X84, and X85), this highly optioned example is far rarer than contemporaries such as the 993 Turbo or even the 964 Turbo 3.6. Each example was effectively hand-assembled, making no two cars exactly alike. The Flachbau’s association with Porsche’s racing heritage, combined with its late-production status and low build count, places it firmly among the most collectible air-cooled 911s ever produced.
As values of air-cooled Porsche continue to stratify, the 964 Turbo S Flachbau occupies the very top tier, offering rarity beyond RS models, greater visual drama than standard Turbos, and a direct link to Porsche’s bespoke motorsport engineering ethos of the early 1990s.
