Seller's Introduction

Our team at duPont REGISTRY Live presents this 1994 RUF RCT EVO Widebody, a factory-built W09-chassis example finished in Connaught Green over a black interior and showing just 9,309 kilometers (5,464 miles). Developed by RUF Automobile during the height of the air-cooled era, the RCT evolved the Porsche 964 platform into something significantly faster and more focused while maintaining everyday usability. Equipped with a turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-six paired with a 6-speed manual transmission, this widebody example combines low production exclusivity with the engineering depth that has defined RUF for decades. With its upgraded engine, distinctive specification, and low mileage, this RCT EVO represents one of the most desirable interpretations of the air-cooled 911 era.

Overview

Coming from humble beginnings as a small repair shop in Germany, RUF Automobile evolved into one of the most respected names in the Porsche world under the leadership of Alois Ruf. After taking over the company in 1974 following his father’s passing, Alois Ruf began transforming Porsche platforms into increasingly specialized high-performance machines. By the late 1980s and early 1990s, RUF had become internationally recognized through cars such as the CTR “Yellowbird,” whose Nürburgring and Autobahn performances established the company’s reputation globally.

While the CTR tends to dominate discussions surrounding RUF, the RCT series occupies an equally important place in the company’s history. Standing for “RUF Carrera Turbo,” the RCT was developed between 1992 and 1994 as a more usable and refined turbocharged counterpart to RUF’s more extreme offerings. Starting with naturally aspirated Porsche 964s, RUF transformed the platform with forced induction, revised suspension, upgraded aerodynamics, integrated roll cage solutions, and substantial chassis engineering.

The original RCT package elevated output from the standard 964 Carrera’s 270 horsepower to approximately 385 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque. As Porsche introduced the newer 993 generation, RUF further evolved the concept by adapting revised 993 cylinder head tech to the RCT platform, creating the RCT EVO specification. Output increased to 425 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque, establishing the EVO as one of the most capable air-cooled turbocharged road cars of its era. This RCT retains it's original RUF serialized 3.6 liter turbo flat 6 engine. A photo of the engine number matching the Zertifikat is available in the Tags and Stampings section above.

This particular example began life as a factory RUF build completed in May 1994 before later returning to Pfaffenhausen for conversion to full EVO specification in 2020. The car underwent disassembly to the bare chassis, ice blasting, technical inspection, and reassembly. Structural modifications included an integrated leather-trimmed roll cage, rain gutter removal, and sunroof deletion. Additional upgrades included a rebuilt transmission, Bilstein sport suspension, RUF braking components, revised aerodynamics, lightweight interior appointments, and freshly refinished RUF 18-inch wheels. Documentation indicates that over $60,000 was invested in upgrading the car to EVO specification alone.

Finished in Connaught Green, the car presents with an understated specification that contrasts with the aggression of the EVO widebody architecture.  Lightweight sport seats, revised trim, and a Porsche Classic radio maintain period correctness while subtly modernizing usability.

Factory-built W09 VIN RUF automobiles occupy a unique category within the collector car market, recognized as standalone manufacturer-built vehicles rather than aftermarket conversions. Combined with its documented EVO conversion, low mileage, and extensive factory-supported recommissioning, this RCT EVO represents a particularly rare opportunity for collectors to acquire something truly significant within the air-cooled performance landscape.
