Handbuilt in Huntington Beach, California, a region synonymous with the modern Porsche restomod movement, this example is one of only 25 produced worldwide and is known as “Mystique.” Finished in Amethyst Metallic over a bespoke purple-and-black leather interior, this bespoke build shows just 1.084 miles at the time of documentation. Representing the most radical open-top expression of Gunther Werks’ carbon-intensive 993 program, this Speedster offers concours-level craftsmanship paired with a deeply analog, mechanically focused driving experience.

Within the landscape of modern Porsche reinterpretations, few projects are as deliberate in their execution as the Speedster program from Gunther Werks. Rather than recreating a historical model, the concept explores a path Porsche itself never fully pursued, an open-top version of the 993 developed to modern standards of engineering and performance.

 

Each Speedster begins with a donor 993 chassis that is extensively reworked before being transformed through a process that prioritizes weight reduction, structural rigidity, and precision. The use of carbon fiber extends across nearly every exterior panel, reshaping the car into a wider, more purposeful form that wraps around 18-inch forged three-piece Fuchs-style wheels, while maintaining a cohesive design language rooted in Porsche’s heritage.

 

Power comes from a Rothsport Racing-built 4.0-liter flat-six, a high-revving naturally aspirated unit developed to deliver immediate response and a broad, usable powerband. Producing 435 horsepower and 335 pound-feet of torque, the engine is paired with a G50 6-speed manual transmission, reinforcing the car’s focus on mechanical engagement. The absence of modern electronic driver aids places the emphasis entirely on driver input, resulting in a driving experience that is direct, analog, and highly involving.

 

Despite its open-top configuration, the Speedster benefits from extensive structural reinforcement, including integrated bracing and chassis development that preserves rigidity. A JRZ computer-controlled suspension system further enhances composure, allowing the car to adapt across varying road conditions while maintaining precision.

Finished in a striking Amethyst Metallic, this example stands apart within the limited production run. The color accentuates the car’s wide stance and carbon-intensive construction, while subtle exterior details, including the Speedster tonneau and sculpted rear deck, define its profile.
