Seller's Introduction
duPont REGISTRY Live presents this 1997 Porsche 911 Turbo (993), finished in black over a black leather interior, with 9,757 miles from new. Ordered through the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur program, this 993 Turbo features the Dark Rootwood package on the dashboard, door panels, and steering wheel, accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity confirming its factory special-order specification. As the final generation of the air-cooled 911 Turbo, the 993 represents the closing chapter of a powertrain lineage that began in 1975 with the 930, and this example combines that mechanical heritage with single-ownership history and low mileage.
Overview
The 993 generation arrived in 1994 as the last air-cooled 911, a model many in Porsche's own dealer network feared would never reach production, after years of debate about replacing the 911 with water-cooled alternatives. The Turbo variant followed a year later for the 1995 model year, introducing the German marque's first twin-turbocharged six-cylinder engine paired with all-wheel drive adapted from the Porsche 959 halo supercar, and replacing the longstanding semi-trailing-arm rear suspension with a multi-link design for the first time in the model's history.
At its heart sits a 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged, air-cooled flat-six, paired here with a six-speed manual transaxle, a hydraulic clutch, and a limited-slip differential, with power going to all four wheels through Porsche's torque-biasing all-wheel-drive system. Period figures place the 993 Turbo at 0-60 mph in approximately 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph, figures that were considered class-leading at the car's debut and remain potent by modern standards.
This particular example reflects the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur program, the factory department allowing special-order configurations beyond the standard catalog. The Dark Rootwood package extends to the dashboard, door panels, and dark burr maple steering wheel, paired with black leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, and a six-disc CD changer. Aftermarket Eibach springs are fitted, with the original factory springs retained and included in the sale.
The exterior is finished in black paint over 18-inch Turbo Twist wheels with color-matched Porsche crest caps, red-painted calipers, xenon headlights, a sunroof, a fixed rear spoiler, and a rear windshield wiper. Inside, the cabin comes with Porsche-branded floor mats, the factory fire extinguisher, and the original steering wheel airbag. The sale also includes both folding ignition keys with integrated remote control devices, along with the original rear seat parts.
Porsche built fewer than 6,000 examples of this generation, and the air-cooled flat-six under its decklid went out of production for good once the 996 arrived. That gives every surviving 993 Turbo a ceiling on supply that no future Porsche can replicate. Showing just 9,757 miles, this 993 Turbo is additionally accompanied by a numbered Porsche Exclusive Certificate of Authenticity confirming its factory, making it an exceptionally well-preserved example of one of the most sought-after 911 Turbos ever built.
