Seller's Introduction

Our team presents a late-production final model year air-cooled Porsche icon, a U.S.-market 1998 Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet (993) finished in Ocean Blue Metallic over a gray leather interior. Showing just over 46,000 miles, this example represents one of the final iterations of the last air-cooled 911 generation, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. With two documented owners, front-end paint protection film, and desirable factory options, this 993 Cabriolet offers classic Porsche character combined with open-top usability.

Overview

The 993-generation Porsche 911 occupies a special place in the model’s lineage as the final evolution of the air-cooled flat-six, and the Cabriolet adds another layer of appeal by pairing that mechanical purity with open-air driving. Introduced in the mid-1990s, the 993-generation brought significant technical improvements over earlier air-cooled cars, including a more refined multi-link rear suspension, enhanced chassis rigidity, and improved overall drivability, while retaining the unmistakable sound, character, and feel that define classic 911s.

Power comes from a naturally aspirated (M64/05) 3.6-liter flat-six that produces 272 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque. This particular car is a C2 or the Standard Carrera Cab and features a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout that pairs with a six-speed manual transmission. 60 mph comes up in 5.3 seconds, and top speed is rated at 171 mph. Compared to earlier generations, the 993 is known for being more planted and confidence-inspiring, particularly at speed, without losing the analog steering feel and mechanical engagement that enthusiasts value. Stiffening was achieved on the cabriolet through the A-Pillars and sills, resulting in a marginal weight penalty when compared to the coupe. The power-operated soft top deploys in just 18 seconds and allows drivers to enjoy the full character of the air-cooled engine.

This particular car, finished in Ocean Blue Metallic, a period-correct color that highlights the 993’s subtly widened bodywork and smoother front and rear fascias, has 46,051 miles at the time of documenting. It is a highly specified example and features an extensive list of desirable factory options, with highlights being turbo-style wheels in a silver finish, seat heating, a wind deflector, and several others as noted below. Modifications include an aftermarket Alpine headunit. Carfax shows two owners, with early ownership in Washington followed by long-term stewardship in Georgia. The report notes two minor incidents, one at the passenger-front and one at the passenger-rear, with cosmetic body and paint work likely performed as a result. A front-end paint protection film has been applied, helping preserve the exterior finish.

As values of air-cooled 911s continue to be driven by originality, documentation, and usability, the 993 Cabriolet represents a compelling option for collectors and enthusiasts alike. It offers the last of the air-cooled engineering, improved refinement over earlier cars, and the added desirability of open-top motoring. With limited production relative to later water-cooled models and growing appreciation for the 993 generation as a whole, examples like the one seen here continue to represent a strong entry point into the modern-classic Porsche market.
