Seller's Introduction

Our team presents a final-year, widebody U.S.-Spec 993 Carrera 4S finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over its rare factory Nephrite Green Special Leather interior. Showing 79,745 miles, this C4S carries well-documented mechanical servicing, including a top-end engine rebuild and clutch replacement, with extensive records and photos. It remains a highly original, collector-grade example of one of the most coveted air-cooled 911 variants.

Overview

The 1998 model year marked the end of the air-cooled 911 era, and the Carrera 4S served as the closing chapter of the 993 platform before Porsche switched to water cooling with the 996. Built for only 1996, 1997, and 1998, the Carrera 4S stands apart within the 993 range because of its configuration. Porsche combined the wide body from the 993 Turbo with Turbo grade suspension and Turbo grade brakes.

The model also featured the All Wheel Drive system with a viscous coupling in place of the earlier center differential. Power comes from a naturally aspirated 3.6-liter flat six with the later VarioRam intake system, rated at 282 horsepower and paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The chassis sits between the narrow body Carrera and the Turbo in weight, footprint, and response. The wider rear track, longer wheelbase, and Turbo hardware create a planted feel, while the naturally aspirated engine retains sharp throttle character.

This particular example is a highly optioned and very well-documented U.S. specification car finished in Arctic Silver Metallic over Nephrite Green Special Leather (Code JB). It is an extremely rare factory interior choice and a major part of its collectability. The original window sticker confirms desirable factory equipment, including the Racing Style Sport Seat Lightweight package with carbon-backed sport seats, the Motor Sound Package, storage in place of the rear seats, and Porsche floor mats in black.

A major top-end rebuild was completed in 2020 at 73,817 miles by Morris Brothers Motorsports due to worn valve guides. The cylinder heads were machined, new guides installed, spark plugs and cables replaced, and the clutch and flywheel were serviced at the same time. Documentation includes records and photos. Paint is original on the body panels with a clear coat respray carried out on the driver door, quarter panel, and engine cover in June 2020. The factory Turbo Twist wheels remain clean and wear Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires dated 2024.

Inside, the Nephrite Green leather shows light bolster wear on the driver's seat and minor discoloration in the footwell. The car retains its factory leather dash and doors, power sport adjustment, rear luggage compartment, Blaupunkt Toronto SQR 48 radio, and carbon sport seating. Mileage shown is approximately 79,000.

The Carrera 4S was produced in limited numbers with a total run of roughly 6,948 units worldwide. Approximately 2,300 reached the United States, and fewer than 300 of those were 1998 examples. Porsche ended air-cooled 911 production in March 1998, and the final road-going air-cooled 911 to leave the factory was a Riviera Blue Carrera 4S delivered to Jerry Seinfeld. That historical milestone gives the model a unique place in the lineage.

Short production, final year significance, the rare Nephrite Green interior, factory carbon sport seats, the Motor Sound Package, and extensive documentation make this C4S a standout collector-grade example of one of the most coveted 993 variants.
