Seller's Introduction

Our team at duPont REGISTRY Live proudly presents this 2003 Saleen S7, chassis 03-024, finished in Speedlab Silver over a charcoal and black interior, showing just 1,910 miles at the time of documentation. It was delivered new to South Florida Motorcars of Lake Placid, Florida, and later formed part of the Always Evolving collection in Valencia, California, where it was owned by Roger Rodas, business partner of the late Paul Walker. Further distinguishing this particular S7, is founder Steve Saleen's signature that prominently appears on the underside of the driver's-side butterfly door.

According to the SaleenS7Registry on Instagram, chassis 03-024 is believed to be one of just 22 naturally aspirated S7s built, the eighth example off the assembly line in November 2002 at Saleen's Irvine, California facility, and one of only five cars finished in this color and interior combination. This no-option car also represents an exceptionally rare specification within an estimated road-car production run of just 55 S7s split between naturally aspirated and Twin Turbo variants. Although Saleen has never officially confirmed total production, industry sources have placed overall S7 numbers, including competition cars, between the high 70s and approximately 100 units.

Overview

Best known through the 1980s and 1990s for its tuned Ford Mustangs, Saleen set out in the late 1990s to build its own clean-sheet, mid-engine supercar, resulting in the S7. Unveiled at the Monterey Historic Races in August 2000, it was one of the first American-made mid-engine supercars since Vector's low-volume efforts a decade earlier. Developed for both road and competition use, the car was penned by Phil Frank and pairs a chrome-moly steel space frame with carbon-fiber bodywork and extensive functional aerodynamics. England's Ray Mallock Limited assisted with chassis development, while the closely related S7R brought the same basic architecture to international competition.

Power comes from a mid-mounted, naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V8, a heavily reworked Ford Windsor small block enlarged to 427 cubic inches, that puts out 550 horsepower and 525 pound-feet of torque through a six-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels. Despite pushrod, two-valve architecture that was already dated by contemporary standards for its time, period testing recorded 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds, putting the S7 in Ferrari Enzo territory, along with a quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds and a factory-claimed top speed of 220 mph. The chassis pairs a coilover suspension with Brembo slotted and ventilated disc brakes and Saleen-branded six-piston calipers.

Chassis 03-024 seen here is, the eighth of 22 naturally aspirated S7s built, was delivered new to South Florida Motorcars in Lake Placid, Florida, in 2003 and was later registered across Florida, Indiana, and Arizona before spending time at Always Evolving, the Valencia-based performance shop Paul Walker co-founded. The car was owned specifically by Walker's business partner, Roger Rodas, who held this example along with two other S7s in his personal collection; the car was never owned by Paul Walker himself, despite the ownership occasionally being misattributed to him, a distinction confirmed directly with the administrator of the Saleen S7 Registry.

Finished in Speedlab Silver over carbon-fiber bodywork, butterfly doors, a roof-mounted intake scoop, and carbon-fiber ground effects. The car's factory Saleen wheels, left unpolished from its original build, were painted and powder-coated black at some point during this ownership period. Chassis 24 is one of only two S7 road cars among the model's 55-car run built without the polished-wheel upgrade.

Inside, the purposeful cabin pairs charcoal and black leather upholstery with silver accents, white-faced instrument dials, a Kenwood CD player, and AP Racing pedals, and, in keeping with the S7's built-to-fit ethos, the seat position is fixed, a detail original buyers addressed at the factory during delivery. A chassis plaque on the center console confirms its identity as 03-024, with this particular car also featuring Steve Saleen signature under the driver's door.

More than two decades after its debut, the S7 occupies an increasingly compelling position among the increasingly sought-after analog, mid-engine supercars of the 2000s. It combines a naturally aspirated large-displacement V8, more than 500 horsepower, a three-pedal manual transmission, rear-wheel drive, traditional gauges, and 200-plus-mph performance in a package produced in exceptionally small numbers. Offered with a single key, chassis 03-024 adds low indicated mileage, distinctive Speedlab Silver specification, documented Roger Rodas and Always Evolving history, and none other than Steve Saleen's signature, making it a particularly intriguing example of one of the era's most desirable American supercars.
