Seller's Introduction
duPont REGISTRY Live presents this 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, a 997.1-generation example finished in black with the model's popular factory orange livery and showing approximately 11,500 miles at the time of documentation. As the first GT3 RS officially imported to the United States and the only one built around the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter Mezger flat-six paired with a six-speed manual, the 997.1 holds a definitive position in the modern GT3 RS lineage.
Overview
The 997.1 GT3 RS arrived for the 2007 model year as the second iteration of the 911 GT3 RS, and the first Porsche federalized for North American sale. The 996 GT3 RS that preceded it was a European-only homologation car. The 997.1 brought the model into the US market with the same naturally aspirated formula that had defined the RS line, applied to the GT department's last 3.6-liter Mezger build before the displacement increase to 3.8 liters, that arrived with the 997.2 in 2010.
This car carries the 3.6-liter Mezger naturally aspirated flat-six paired with a six-speed manual, the only transmission offered on the 997.1 GT3 RS. Output is rated at approximately 415 horsepower at 7,600 rpm and 298 pound-feet of torque, with a redline at 8,400 rpm. Period figures place 0-60 mph at around four seconds and top speed at 193 mph. Power runs to the rear wheels only, through Porsche Active Suspension Management and ventilated disc brakes at all four corners. This particular car also carries a Sharkwerks central muffler bypass, a well-known aftermarket exhaust modification widely fitted to this generation of GT3 cars.
The RS specification separates itself from the standard 997.1 GT3 in ways that go beyond the spec sheet. It uses the wider Carrera 4 body shell, approximately 1.7 inches wider at the rear over the narrow-body GT3, paired with a correspondingly wider rear track. The wheel carriers and split wishbones are drawn from the GT3 RS race car as part of the model's homologation specification.
Finished in black with the factory GT3 RS orange livery, the car seen here sits on 19-inch orange RS wheels against red brake calipers, orange-painted mirror caps, and the model's high-rise fixed rear wing with orange endplates. A race-style paint protection film treatment has been applied. The interior is presented in black leather and Alcantara, with sports bucket seats, a three-spoke leather-rimmed steering wheel, an Alcantara headliner, and a dash-mounted Sport Chrono stopwatch. The traditional five-pod gauge cluster with a black face, automatic climate control, and Porsche AM/FM head unit with CD player remain in place.
North American allocation of the 997.1 GT3 RS is commonly cited at anywhere between 413 cars across the 2007 and 2008 model years, against a global total often cited near 1,909. With approximately 11,500 miles, two keys, the owner's manual, and the Certificate of Authenticity included in the sale, this car presents as a low-mileage example of one of the last analog generations of the GT3 RS.
