Seller's Introduction
Our team presents a cornerstone modern AMG flagship, a 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Coupe developed as the first clean-sheet performance car engineered entirely by AMG. Finished in AMG Le Mans Red over Classic Red and Black AMG Exclusive Nappa leather, this example benefits from a desirable factory specification, documented history, and over $12,000 in original options. With its naturally aspirated V8, iconic gullwing doors, and increasing collectibility, this SLS represents a defining moment in AMG’s evolution.
Overview
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG marked a pivotal moment for AMG, standing as the first production vehicle developed entirely in-house by AMG rather than as a derivative of an existing Mercedes-Benz platform. Introduced as a spiritual successor to the legendary 300 SL Gullwing, the SLS revived the iconic upward-opening doors while delivering thoroughly modern performance, engineering, and usability.
Beneath its long hood sits the M159 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8, an evolution of the famed AMG 6.2 architecture, that delivers 563 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a rear-mounted 7-speed dual-clutch transmission, contributing to a near-perfect weight distribution and a visceral driving experience defined by throttle response, sound, and mechanical character.
Capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in approximately 3.7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 197 mph, the SLS AMG is one of the last great naturally aspirated V8 supercars before the widespread industry shift toward turbocharging. Its aluminum spaceframe chassis kept weight relatively low at 3,570 pounds, while maintaining structural rigidity, and its suspension tuning struck a deliberate balance between high-speed stability and grand touring comfort. Unlike later, more track-focused AMG variants, the standard SLS Coupe remains a highly usable performance car, equally comfortable on long-distance drives or spirited back-road sessions.
This particular 2012 example is believed to be one of only 15 SLS AMGs, specified in AMG Le Mans Red (Code 434), a color closely associated with AMG’s racing identity. It is also equipped with a suite of factory options totaling approximately $10,000 when new. These include AMG Adaptive Suspension, AMG forged alloy wheels, red brake calipers, exclusive Nappa leather upholstery, Alcantara steering wheel trim, and carbon fiber interior accents.
CarFax history reflects six prior owners across Connecticut, Maryland, New Hampshire, and Texas, with no accidents reported and no indication of abuse or modification. With production numbers limited and the naturally aspirated V8 era firmly in the rearview mirror, the SLS AMG has increasingly been recognized as a future classic, valued for its design, engine, and historical significance within the AMG lineage.
