Our team at duPont REGISTRY Live proudly presents this 2024 Ford Bronco Desert Racer, one of only 50 units produced and uniquely configured for street-legal use. Developed by Ford Performance as a turnkey off-road race platform, the Bronco DR was never intended for public roads, making this example particularly notable. Finished in Ford Racing livery, it is powered by a 5.0-liter Coyote V8 that puts out 400 horsepower and pairs with a 10-speed automatic transmission and advanced off-road suspension. With its limited production and direct connection to Baja competition, this Bronco DR represents one of the most extreme interpretations of the modern Bronco platform. Overview
This is a Ford Bronco DR, engineered with a singular purpose: to compete in long-distance desert racing events such as the Baja 1000. Unlike standard production Broncos, the DR was developed from the outset to be a purpose-built race vehicle, incorporating motorsport-grade components and design principles.
At its core sits a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter Coyote V8, delivering over 400 horsepower with a focus on durability and sustained high-load performance. Power is routed through a 10R80 10-speed automatic transmission to a four-wheel-drive system, providing consistent traction across unpredictable terrain.
But the chassis and suspension are what truly define the DR’s capability. Equipped with Multimatic Positional Selective DSSV dampers, engineered to handle high-speed desert running and maintain control over uneven surfaces, this rig sits on massive 37-inch off-road tires mounted on beadlock wheels. The high clearance results in a setup that allows for aggressive terrain traversal with minimal compromise.
This particular example has been uniquely modified to meet street-legal requirements, a rarity for the platform. Additions include turn signals, a manual windshield wiper system, a rear-mounted license plate bracket, and a revised fuel system. Despite these changes, the vehicle still retains its race-focused architecture, including a rear-mounted radiator designed for optimal cooling during extended high-speed operation.
The exterior reflects its competition roots, finished in Ford Racing livery and equipped with a reinforced front ram bar, exaggerated fender flares, auxiliary lighting package, and a functional roof and spare tire setup. Inside, the cabin is unapologetically motorsport-driven. Recaro Pro-Racer bucket seats with Sparco multi-point harnesses, a full roll cage, and a quick-release steering wheel define the cockpit. A MoTeC C187 communications system with intercom and siren functionality further emphasizes its racing intent, while a fresh air filtration system and air-conditioned driver area provide a degree of usability in extreme conditions.
