Seller's Introduction
duPont REGISTRY Live presents this 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi (E9), a highly desirable European-specification example of BMW’s legendary grand touring coupe, finished in Verona Red over black leather. With 101,119 kilometers (~62,800 miles), this fuel-injected CSi was originally delivered in Switzerland before spending time throughout Europe, including Ireland, England, and Monaco, prior to being imported to the United States in 2023.
Overview
While the E9 chassis was offered in the U.S., the fuel-injected 3.0 CSi was not officially available stateside until 1974, and even then arrived with federalized lighting and impact modifications that altered the car’s original design. This example retains the cleaner European-specification appearance and drivetrain configuration enthusiasts seek. The 5-digit odometer reads 1,119 kilometers having just rolled over in April of 2024, true lifetime mileage is believed to be 101,119 km (~62,832 miles). Additionally, this E9 was featured on the cover of the June 2014 issue of Thoroughbred and Classic Cars magazine.
Power comes from the numbers-matching M30 3.0-liter fuel-injected inline-six, paired with a Getrag 4-speed manual transmission, delivering smooth power delivery and classic rear-wheel-drive dynamics. Widely regarded as one of BMW’s defining grand touring platforms, the E9 combined elegant styling with sporting performance in a way few cars of the era could match.
This example underwent a comprehensive mechanical and cosmetic restoration in Ireland in 2010. Finished in Verona Red, a full refinish from the original Chamonix white, the exterior features genuine 16-inch Alpina wheels, European bumpers, a lower front air dam with fog lights, and black CSi side striping. The larger Alpina wheels, front air dam, and striping are tasteful period-style upgrades over factory specification. A paint correction and ceramic coating completed in January 2026 further enhanced the presentation.
Inside, the cabin is trimmed in black leather upholstery with classic wood trim accents. Features include VDO instrumentation, a black Nardi steering wheel, power windows, and an Alpine radio. The currently installed radio powers on but does not produce sound, so a RetroSound radio designed to retain a factory-correct 1970s appearance and amplifier are included with the sale. Photos of the factory tool tray are included above.
Recent maintenance has been extensive. In 2025, the car received a timing chain, water pump, battery, and major tune-up. Additional documented service includes replacement of the power steering pump, oil pan gasket, differential input shaft seal, slave cylinder, and front sway bar end links in preparation for sale. Tires were replaced in 2024, and receipts and service records accompany the vehicle.
This 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi represents a rare opportunity to acquire a true European-market, fuel-injected E9 coupe with documented history, restoration work, desirable provenance, and tasteful period upgrades.
