Taking inspiration from McLaren’s Can Am racers from the 1960s, it represents the pinnacle of modern-day McLaren Engineering, in line with its other Ultimate Series creations. This particular example is #120 of the 149 units produced worldwide, with roughly 30 believed to have been allocated to the United States. Showing just 653 miles, this Elva ranks among the rarest modern hypercars ever built, and its extensive MSO specification further enhances exclusivity, making this example especially compelling for collectors seeking a supercar with rarity, provenance, and long-term appeal.

The McLaren Elva is one of the most radical road cars ever produced by the British marque. Unveiled in late 2019 and built at the McLaren Production Centre in Woking, England, it forms part of the brand’s elite Ultimate Series lineup alongside the P1, Senna, Speedtail, and Solus GT. It is not a speedster in the traditional sense, but a true barchetta, completely open to the elements and engineered for maximum connection between driver and machine.

 

This highly specified example, with 653 miles at the time of documentation, was delivered new to McLaren Charlotte and carries an extensive list of factory MSO options, which add up to nearly $88,000 over the base MSRP. Notable high-value options include MSO Napier Green paint ($18,890), MSO mirror caps ($10,928), MSO Binnacle ($5,054), MSO calipers ($4,950), bespoke green stitching and piping, gloss carbon fiber exterior and interior finishes, and more. The extensive customization through McLaren Special Operations ensures that no two Elvas are the same. 

 

The Elva shares its core architecture with the 720S, utilizing a unique evolution of the MonoCage II carbon fibre chassis, further reinforced to maintain rigidity despite the absence of a roof or traditional windshield. The entire carbon fiber body is formed from just three primary panels, resulting in a dry weight of just 2,531 pounds, making it the lightest road car that McLaren has ever produced. Inside, the instrument display is mounted directly to the steering column that moves with it, ensuring visibility at all times. The rear tonneau conceals storage for two helmets, while advanced materials are engineered to withstand exposure to the elements. 

 

Power comes from a rear mid mounted 4.0 liter twin turbocharged V8 derived from the Senna, which produces approximately 804 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. The seven-speed dual clutch transmission delivers a 0-62 mph time of 2.8 seconds with top speed rated at 203 mph. A bespoke quad exit exhaust system constructed from titanium and Inconel with 3D printed tips delivers a raw, mechanical soundtrack. Its defining innovation is the Active Air Management System, which channels airflow over the cockpit to create a virtual canopy. It works in tandem with a full-width active rear spoiler that also functions as an airbrake.

 

Inspired by the 1960s McLaren Elva M1A, M1B, and M1C Can Am racers, the modern Elva combines heritage design with extreme engineering. Its rarity, Ultimate Series status, and uncompromising open-air design philosophy place it firmly among the most collectible hypercars.
